The temple of Ta Prohm was built by Jayavarman VII and was one of the first major temples he built, and the temple is similar in layout and architectural design to Banteay Kdei and Preah Khan. Ta Prohm was dedicated to Jayavarman VII's mother, and Preah Khan dedicated to his father.
The temple has many giant silk-cotton and fig trees entwined in the stonework, sometimes threatening collapse of some areas. These make for some excellent photo opportunities. Ta Prohm is surrounded by the a wall and moat around its perimeter, the usual entrance is from the east, through the east Gopura gate. A large sprawling temple with many dark corners and open areas to explore.
The Tomb Raider film was partly filmed in the Ta Prohm temple.
