Kbal Spean - Phnom Kulen Photo Index

The river of 1000 lingas and carvings in the riverbed at Kbal Spean is found after a 45 minute walk uphill through the tree covered hillside in the Kulen mountains, about 32km north of the main temple area. It is near the location at Phnom Kulen where the first Khmer king, Jayavarman II held a god-king ceremony in the year 802 CE, the start of the Angkorian empire.

The entrance to the Kbal Spean area closes at 3:00 pm, you can find it by continuing along the road past Banteay Srei for about 12km, and the parking area & Kbal Spean entrance is on the left.

Due to its out of the way location, and considerable uphill walk, Kbal Spean is not a highly visited area.
