I fell in love with Cambodia while travelling extensively throughout the country earlier this year (2006), taking hundreds of photos and collecting information from a wide range of sources. One of the goals of this website is to bring the beauty of Cambodia to people all over the world, all of this website is freely available for anyone with internet access.
Cambodia is an amazing country with a diverse and eventful history, the glory of the ancient Khmer empire centred around Angkor contrasts sharply with the conflicts that plagued the country during the 1970's and 1980's that has left the country one of the poorest nations in Southeast Asia.
Cambodia is now peaceful and safe for visitors, the country's grim recent history should not overshadow all that is great and beautiful in Cambodia, not just the magnificent temples at Angkor, but the charming, bustling city of Phnom Penh with its stunning Royal Palace, colonial French buildings and spiritual Wat Phnom. The beautiful beaches of Sihanoukville are very much undiscovered by western travellers, with many hotel and tour companies not even acknowledging the town, simply offering Phnom Penh and Siem Reap/Angkor as destinations.
I endeavour to provide accurate, up-to-date and impartial information about Cambodia. Where possible I base my writings on actual experiences that myself and others have had in Cambodia, trying to provide a 'real' guide for travellers & tourists.
It is my hope that Cambodia recieves the attention it deserves from people around the world, and not to focus on poverty and past conflicts that you see reported in the news & media. Khmer people are friendly and welcoming, the current young generation of Cambodians who have grown up in peaceful times sometimes do not understand tourists fascination with the country's past war and conflicts.
About the Photographer/Writer
I am a young Englishman with long established links to the Southeast Asia region, over the last 10+ years I have visited much of Thailand, and also spent some time in Malaysia, Borneo, Myanmar (Burma) and Singapore before making my first trip to Cambodia earlier this year.
A number of my close and extended family live and work in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam and have done for some years.
I intend to return to Cambodia in a few months and stay for a while to expand my collection of photographs, probably January 2007 when it gets very cold in England, but beautiful weather in Cambodia & Southeast Asia.
